Adam Homo, Boys Head Coach

Adam Homo

Coach Homo graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1992. He was a four year three-sport athlete competing for Dana Homo in cross country, Howard Haines and Andy Scupham in swimming, and Tom Kurth in track. Coach Homo competed as the sixth man on the 1990 Elkhart Central cross country team that placed 11th in the State meet. He also competed in the State swim meet for three consecutive seasons. Coach Homo attended Wabash College where he ran one season of  track for Rob Johnson and swam four seasons for Gail Pebworth. As a swimmer, Coach Homo earned the “Some Little Giant Award” twice and was named Captain his senior year. Coach Homo earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wabash College in 1996. Coach Homo then worked with AmeriCorps for a year before attending Indiana State University, where he earned his teaching licensure in the Fall of 1999 and a Masters of Science degree in English Teaching in 2003. Adam Homo is a third generation Elkhart teacher and coach who currently teaches English for EHS Freshman Division. He is married to Nicole Homo, who is a Special Education teacher for Elkhart High School. They have a daughter, Madelyn (freshman), who attends Elkhart High School and a son, Brayden (3rd grade), who attends Riverview Elementary.

During Coach Homo’s time leading the Charger Boys’ Track teams, they won eight Northern Lakes Conference titles, eight sectional titles, and one regional title. Coach Homo has taken participants to state 17 of 19 years while leading the program. He’s coached three individual state champions including Corey Miller, Julius Smith, and Aaron Jordan. He’s been honored by his peers eight times as the NLC Coach of the Year and has an overall coaching record of 105-42-2.


Bekah Shenk, Girls Head Coach

Bekah Shenk

Coach Bekah Shenk has been involved with the Elkhart Central track team for the past 9 years. She spent 7 years as an assistant coach training the distance girls all of the years and the distance boys as well for the past 4 years. In addition, she led the program as the girls’ head coach for the past 2 seasons. Highlights include having distance relays qualify for the Indoor State Meet three years in a row, the boys 4×800 relay winning Regionals and setting the school record in 2018 as they qualified for State for the 3rd year in a row, Lauren Dibley setting the school record in the 3200 as the sectional champion and Nathan Dibley qualifying for State in the 1600 and 3200 in 2018. In 2019, Sophomore Mia Pulianas qualified for the State Meet in discus for the 2nd year in a row with her best throw, 123’10”, one foot away from the school record. Coach Shenk has had 4 athletes awarded the Female Athlete of the Year at Elkhart Central with 2 winning the Catherine Wolf Award and 1 athlete awarded the Male Athlete of the Year who went on to become the Tim Bringle Award Winner.

Coach Shenk attended Taylor University and received a double major in Exercise Science and International Studies. She competed on the Taylor Cross Country and Track Teams all four years. She started as a volunteer coach at Pierre Moran Middle School for 2 years before becoming a head coach at Elkhart Central. In her free time, she enjoys training for and competing in endurance races. Her best 5k time is 18:56 and her best marathon time is 3:09:38. She has run 20 marathons including the Boston Marathon 3 times. She has finished 4 half Ironman Triathlons and 2 Full Ironman Triathlons. She enjoys traveling and has spent over 5 years of her life living in countries other than the United States. Her travels have taken her to 5 of the 7 continents. She teaches Geography and History of the World at the EHS Freshman Division.
